Educators
High school students are introduced to peer mentors from their local university in the Fall. They participate in activity based and educational media literacy workshops that are led and created by their college mentors. These workshops cover TV, film, music videos, video games, commercials, social media, magazines- everything from billboards to bumper stickers- to get students thinking about the media they consume. In the Spring, they dive deeper into these concepts in MDR’s nine unit curriculum. There are 4 lessons per unit. The first is a media literacy lesson, the second a media production lesson, the third is an advocacy lesson, and the fourth is a reflective and evaluative lesson. This curriculum gives the high school students an opportunity to expand on what they learned in the Fall and develop a proficiency in their practice.

-These projects are critiqued by media professionals at MDR’s Student Showcase.
- High school participants are exposed to college students, professors, and the college experience through collaborative projects on our partner university campuses.
