Media Education Curriculum and Training Program
MDR launched of its new Common Core aligned Media Literacy curriculum at 3 Los Angeles County high schools and after school programs since Fall 2016. This curriculum will be used alongside a national evidence-based curriculum that promotes healthy teen behavior and social-emotional development.
MDR’s Media Education Curriculum and Training Program is designed to support classroom teachers and youth site leaders in integrating comprehensive media literacy, social-emotional programing, and community engagement in their current programs year round.
MDR’s curriculum follows a three- pillar approach;
(1) Media Literacy,
(2) Media Production, and
(3) Media Justice Advocacy.
It includes 9 thematic units. Each lesson and unit asks students essential questions to consider as they move through the program towards critical thinkers, conscious consumers, producers, and advocates of humanity-driven art in media.
MDR also trains educators and youth development staff in curriculum implementation.

Also, Media Done Responsibly is a mentor and leadership development program. We offer trainings that help college students to identify sexism, racism, violence and rape culture in media.
Our trained college students then teach teenagers how to analyze, produce, and advocate for media that nullifies stereotypes and depicts them as full human beings. Their workshops stimulate student dialogue and critical thinking about social issues in media and supports positive citizenship by providing healthy alternatives to destructive behavior.
Our three-pillar approach helps schools and teachers fulfill several C.A. Content Standards while fostering necessary dialogue among youth. Workshops give teens a powerful voice in addressing sexism, racism, violence, bullying, and rape culture while generating productive solutions.
